Account Types, Read as Jobs Rather Than Names — Zimbabwe

Standard, Cent, Pro, Raw Spread, Zero — the names sound like a ladder of experience and they are nothing of the sort. What separates them is how the bill is shaped, what size of step the volume is counted in, which platforms the account opens on, and whether there is a threshold to clear first. Pick the job, and the account follows.

The five account types are not a ranking of skill. They differ on four practical axes: how the cost is billed — one spread, or a rawer spread plus a commission per side; what size the volume is counted in, with cent-sized lots making a much smaller step possible; which platforms the account can be opened for; and whether a minimum initial deposit applies at all. Standard and Standard Cent open with no minimum initial deposit, while the professional types carry one. Choosing starts from the job in front of you rather than from the label, and nothing about the choice is permanent — a second account can be opened at any time. Minimum deposit applicable; may vary based on payment method or geographic location.

What every account type shares

Processing times may vary depending on the chosen payment method.

Reading the line-up

Read the line-up once and the pattern shows itself: the first two open with no minimum initial deposit and differ mainly in the size of the step volume is counted in, while the other three carry a threshold and differ in whether the cost sits inside the spread or beside it as a commission per side. The numbers behind each line are on the account types page — the tables further down turn them into a choice.

Choosing an account — the short version

Three questions settle it. Is the volume being traded small enough that cent-sized lots make the step manageable? Should the bill arrive as one number, or split into a tighter spread plus a commission per side? And is there a threshold to clear before the account opens at all — Standard and Standard Cent have no minimum initial deposit, the professional types do. Everything else follows from those answers, including the platform, since an account is opened for one. Minimum deposit applicable; may vary based on payment method or geographic location. The names describe billing, not seniority

Pro does not mean the account is reserved for professionals, and Standard does not mean it is a beginner’s version of something better. The labels describe how the account bills and how it executes: one type keeps the entire cost inside a single spread, another cuts the quoted spread towards zero and charges a commission per side instead. The total is not automatically lower in either arrangement — it is arranged differently, which matters for how it is tracked more than for whether it is paid.

That is why the useful question is not ‘which one is better’ but ‘which shape of bill suits the way this account will be used’. Someone placing a handful of trades a month and someone counting cost per lot will answer that differently, and both answers are correct.

Cent-sized lots change the size of the step

A cent account counts volume in cent-sized lots, so the smallest meaningful position is a fraction of what it would be elsewhere. Nothing about the market changes; the granularity of the step does. For a balance that would otherwise be forced into positions too large for it, that is the single most useful difference in the whole line-up.

The trade-off is narrower platform choice — a cent account is opened for MT4 or MT5 rather than the full set — and, as one trader points out below, not every instrument is available on it. Checking the instrument list before committing avoids the only real disappointment this account type produces.

The threshold is part of the decision, not a footnote

Standard and Standard Cent accounts open with no minimum initial deposit. The professional types carry one, which turns the choice into a practical question rather than a stylistic one: an account that cannot be opened yet is not a candidate, whatever its spread column says. Minimum deposit applicable; may vary based on payment method or geographic location.

This is also why the order of decisions matters. Deciding the platform first and the account second leads to backtracking, because an account is opened for a platform and the two cannot be reshuffled afterwards.

What the account type does not decide

It does not change the market, the instrument’s behaviour, or how much a position can move against a balance. It does not make an oversized position safe, and it does not make a plan out of a hunch. Negative balance protection limits losses to the funds deposited, on any of them.

It also does not have to be settled in advance. A demo can be opened against any of the five, so the comparison can be made with live prices and virtual funds before anything is committed, and a second live account can be opened later without touching the first.

Picking an account backwards from the job

  1. Write down the position size actually intended — not the balance, the size of a typical trade.
  2. If that size is uncomfortably large in standard lots, the cent-sized step is the deciding factor and the shortlist is short.
  3. Decide how the bill should read: one number per trade, or a tighter spread plus a commission per side that has to be counted separately.
  4. Check the threshold — an account that requires a minimum initial deposit is only a candidate once that is available.
  5. Choose the platform in the same breath as the account, since the account is opened for one; the comparison table lists which are available where.
  6. Open the same type as a demo first and place a few orders at the intended size before the choice becomes a live one.

Minimum deposit applicable; may vary based on payment method or geographic location. CFDs carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pro only for professional traders?
No. The name describes how the account executes and bills — instant execution with no separate commission — rather than who is allowed to open it. A threshold applies to it, which is a practical filter rather than a qualification.

Delays and slippage may occur. No guarantee of execution speed or precision.

What does a cent account actually change?
The size of the step. Volume is counted in cent-sized lots, so the smallest sensible position is a fraction of what it would be on a standard account. The market itself is unchanged.
Which account has the lowest total cost?
That depends on the instrument and the size traded, because one arrangement keeps everything in the spread and the other splits it into a tighter spread plus a commission per side. The calculator prices a specific volume on a specific account.
Can the account type be changed later?
An existing account keeps its type, but another account can be opened at any time — up to 100 MT4 and 100 MT5 accounts sit under one login, so trying a different type costs a minute.
Do all account types offer the same instruments?
Not always. The instrument list can differ between types, which is worth checking before committing if a particular market is the reason for opening the account.
Which account types have no minimum initial deposit?
Standard and Standard Cent. The professional types carry a minimum. Minimum deposit applicable; may vary based on payment method or geographic location.
Does the platform have to be decided at the same time?
Yes, in practice — an account is opened for a platform and cannot be moved to another afterwards. Deciding both together avoids opening a second account for the wrong reason.
Can a type be tested before it is used for real?
A demo can be opened against any of the five, on live prices with virtual funds, so the comparison can be made before anything is at stake.
Does a swap-free option depend on the account type?
Swap-free (Islamic) accounts are available and remove the overnight interest component on eligible instruments; whether that suits depends on how long positions are held rather than on the label of the account.
Does choosing well make the trading safer?
No. It makes the cost predictable and the step size manageable, nothing more. CFDs carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage — trade only with money you can afford to lose.
